Happy National Golden Retriever Day! Today we're celebrating the incredible impact of these goofy goobers in our lives.
Did you know the Golden Retriever breed was developed by a Scottish nobleman in the 1860s? During that time, black sporting dogs were fashionable and considered to be better hunters; any other colors in well-bred litters were usually disposed of. Marjoribanks saw a dog with a golden coat and bred them with Tweed Spaniels and Irish Setters to make the breed that is known for its friendly nature, intelligence, and versatility!
All the nose boops, belly rubs, and squeaky toys to you and your Golden pals! 🐾💕 #goldenretriever
Today, on National Change a Pet's Life Day, we're celebrating the transformative power of love and compassion with photos of our own rescued pets! 🐾❤️
In 2025, approximately 2.8 million dogs and cats entered shelters and rescues in the U.S. during the first half of the year, but thanks to the kindness of strangers, about 1.9 million animals found their forever homes! Today, a remarkable 52% of shelters in the U.S. are no-kill (more than double the 24% in 2016), a testament to our collective efforts to create a more compassionate world.
So, let's keep shining a light on the importance of adoption and consider opening our hearts and homes to those in need. Will you be the change that changes a pet's life today? 🐾💕

Happy National Yorkshire Terrier Day! Today, we honor the unbridled resilience of Yorkies! 🌟
From humble beginnings as rat hunters to luxury lapdogs of the Victorian elite, these tiny powerhouses have consistently defied expectations. And in WWII, a remarkable Yorkie named "Smokey" took it to new heights - literally! - completing 12 sea missions, 150 air raids, and a jump from a 30ft tower in her own parachute! She was also trained to send telegraphs through an 8-inch wide, 70ft-long pipe, saving many lives.
Her courageous spirit reminds us that every individual, no matter their size, has the capacity to drive meaningful change and leave a lasting impact. #yorkies #yorkshireterrier
It's National Boxer Day! Who knew these cuddly couch potatoes have a rich history? Did you know the Boxer breed, developed in Germany, has roots to ancient Assyria? And in Medieval times, its larger ancestor, the Bullenbeisser, was used to hunt wild boar, bears, and bison! Now, they're just experts at stealing snacks, hogging the blankets, and giving sassy puppy eyes. Tell us about your Boxer and let's celebrate how they enrich our lives!

Happy French Bulldog Day! 🐾 Did you know these adorable pups originated in England in the 1800s, moved to France, and finally made it to the US in the 1900s? The AKC recognized them in 1916, and they've been our best friends ever since! 🐾Tell us about your Frenchie and let's celebrate!

It's National Trivia Day! 🎉 To celebrate, we've got some paw-some cat and dog trivia for you:
Q: Which dog breed is known as the "barkless dog"?
A: The Basenji! Basenji are unique because instead of barking, they make a sound similar to a yodel due to the structure of their larynx.
Q: What dog breed was bred to fight lions?
A: The Rhodesian Ridgeback!
Q: When was the first cat video recorded?
A: The first known cat video was a silent film recorded in 1894, called "Boxing Cats".
Q: What is the oldest dog breed?
A: The Saluki! Salukis have been depicted in ancient Egyptian art as far back as 2100 B.C.
Q: In Denmark, there was a cat that caused a sensation in 1995 with a strange and rare fur color. What color was she?
A: Green! "Miss Greenie"'s fur and nails were green, and it was revealed to be from contaminated copper piping. Her fur returned to grey when her new hair grew in.
Q: Which breed was historically used to guard Roman soldiers during battle?
A: Rottweilers! They were used by Roman armies to protect and drive cattle.
For some people, they want their poodle's hair long and fluffy. But, sometimes it's necessary for your pup's comfort. Poodles are high maintenance, folks! They need a two-step brushing process daily to avoid those dreaded mats. So, wire brush first, then metal comb to the rescue! Don't forget, daily brushing is key... or you'll be saying goodbye to those luscious locks and hello to a buzz cut 😳 #poodleproblems
Happy Pitbull Awareness Day!! This is Shorty, a 5-year-old XL Bully who needs a forever home here at Mutterly Love since his owner unfortunately passed away.
Did you know "pitbull" refers to a type of dog and not a specific breed?
And did you know pitbulls are also historically known as "nanny dogs" due to their protective nature around children?
You can never judge a book by its cover! 💖

Please share! Meet Shorty! He's a five-year-old XL Bully Mix in our care who needs a new home. Sadly, his dad passed away, and his family didn't have the ability to keep him. He loves playing fetch and exploring. He does okay with lower-energy dogs, high-energy makes him a little crazy. Cat reactive, small dog reactive, but good with kids 10+
Has been through Basic Obedience training here at Mutterly Love. He needs a loving home with someone who will continue his training and has a big yard to run around in.
